Uncovering Our Hidden History
Please join us Friday, January 16, 2026, at 23 Pepperrell Road, Kittery Point 5:30 PM – 7:30, for a free lasagna dinner, followed by a short presentation on the historical documentation, photos of some of the memorials erected by other communities, and the timeline for markers in our community.
The rich legacy of area shipbuilding and successful business owners generally ignores the century-old connection to the slave trade, and the reality that human enslavement was not something that benefited only the South. As the nation approaches its 250th anniversary, The First Congregational Church of Kittery Point UCC, and Second Christian of Kittery UCC are coming together, with the Maine Marker Project to help lead a conversation on our shared and often hidden history.
The Maine Marker Project is an effort to create a memorial in Kittery, the only documented arrival site in the State of Maine, part of a larger campaign to acknowledge 90 such locations nationally. Seacoast residents are invited to learn more about the group who is working to acknowledge Maine’s role in the transatlantic human trade, and honor those who were impacted.

Every month we partner with Footprints Food Pantry and Adopt-A-Shelf to help meet our neighbors needs! While we always accept any donation of non-perishable food, our donations are targeted each month to provide a specific item for Footprints' shelves. For the month of January before we begin collecting GLUTEN-FREE ITEMS Our neighbors depend on us, and we depend on you! Thank you for your generous gifts!
